Phoneblocks: recycling, reshaping, reusing the smartphone’s concept

One of the most annoying things about some smartphones (and other gadgets) is that they don’t have removable batteries. Or you can’t upgrade the memory. Or once the screen breaks, that’s it, game over. Or you have found another phone with, say, a camera that better suits your needs. You have to replace an otherwise perfectly cromulent gadget because one part failed to function as it should, or as you want it to.

Resonate Day 2: feeding wonder and creativity

The second day of Resonate was comprised of lectures spanning a range of fields and topics. The few lectures I was able to follow included a small panel of discussions which included a screening of trailer for a documentary called “Cloud” which is scheduled to be released as an interactive movie around July.

Electrolibrary: the capacitive hybrid book

In combining the classic feeling of handling a book with the interactivity of the computer, Waldek Węgrzyn of the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice, Poland, has created a new human-computer interface. His “Electrolibrary” project connects the custom made book to a PC. Providing additional information, relevant to the page being viewed, on-screen. Turn a page in the book, and you “turn a page” on the website as well.
